Stephen Michael Cecil

Stephen Michael Cecil, affectionately known to family and friends as Steve, was born on July 26, 1979, in Hillsborough County, Tampa, Florida, to Zemmery O. Cecil and Diane Miller Williams. A proud Tampa native, Steve’s early years were filled with a love for sketching, video games, and the adventurous spirit that would define the way he lived his life.

At just 17 years old, after graduating from Hillsborough High School, Steve answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He faithfully served three years on active duty, an experience that strengthened the discipline, resilience, and independence that remained with him throughout his life.

Steve embraced life with enthusiasm and authenticity. He lived on his own terms, finding joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together. Whether he was behind the grill preparing a meal for family and friends, introducing everyone to music they had never heard before, dancing without hesitation, or fiercely competing in a game of Fortnite, Steve had a remarkable gift for making every gathering more memorable simply by being there. His laughter was contagious, his kindness was genuine, and his adventurous spirit inspired those around him to enjoy life a little more fully. He was warm-hearted, but a fiercely competitive man who loved making people smile and never missed an opportunity to enjoy life with those around him.

Of all the roles he cherished, none brought Steve greater happiness than being a devoted husband, father, and Papa. His beloved granddaughter, Leena, held a very special place in his heart, and the time they spent together brought him immeasurable joy. Family was the center of Steve’s world. He loved deeply, gave generously, and created memories that will be treasured for generations.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Zemmery O. Cecil.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Thora Collymore Cecil; his children, Zenaidah A. Whyte and Jason D. Cannion II; his cherished granddaughter, Leena Bell; his mother, Diane Miller Williams; his stepmother, Carrie Cecil; his sisters, Stephanie Johnson and Tanna Peeler; his brother, Antonio Cecil; his aunts, extended family, countless cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by his love, laughter, and unwavering presence.

Although Steve’s earthly journey ended far too soon on July 8, 2026, the life he lived continues through the memories he created. His legacy is found in every family gathering, every meal shared around the table, every new song waiting to be discovered, every friendly competition, every Fortnite match, and every story that begins with a smile and the words, “Remember when Steve…”

Steve’s story does not end here. It lives on in the hearts of everyone who knew him, in the laughter he inspired, the love he shared, the music he introduced, and in every joyful memory that begins with, “Remember when Steve…” He lived fully, loved deeply, laughed often, and reminded us that life’s greatest moments are those spent with the people we love. His legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
