FLEMING, Richard “Dick” Paul
Richard (Dick) Paul Fleming, 81, passed away on August 17th, 2021 in his Riverview, FL home with his daughter Tammy by his side. He is preceded in death by his step son Larry Gene French Fleming; and his parents, Ralph and Julia Fleming.
Dick was born April 4, 1940 in New Goshen, Indiana. As a young man growing up in a rural area he developed a passionate lifelong love of fishing, hunting and all things outdoors.
As a young man, Dick served in the Marine Corps and was Honorably discharged in 1960, after which he pursued his education. A graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Dick had a long and successful career primarily in the fertilizer industry. He married his wife Bonnie in 1963 and became a father to her sons Larry Gene and Edward Frank. The family followed Dick across the country as he pursued his career, and along the way brought daughter Tammy into the world. In the early 1970’s Dick embarked on a career with Beker Industries and the family made their home in Conda, Idaho, a small mining town outside of Soda Springs, for many wonderful years. Dick considered Idaho to be God’s Country.
An avid outdoorsman Dick enjoyed all that Idaho had to offer and spent as much time as possible tending to his garden, hunting, fly fishing, camping and snowmobiling with his family and friends. He made many lifelong friends in Idaho that he cherished until the end.
With thoughts of retirement in mind, Dick finally settled in Riverview, FL where he continued to work and outsource his talents as an Electrical Engineer. He loved to be on his boat in the water and spent a great deal of time fishing with his family and grandsons and always looked forward to lobster and scallop season. He cherished the time he spent with family and friends, but time with his grandsons was the most important to him. He will always be remembered for his fun-loving ways blended with his demand of excellence from all those around him.
Dick is survived by his ex-wife Bonnie Fleming, step son Edward French Fleming, daughter Tammy (Fleming) Epperson and grandson’s Bryant Christensen and Evan Epperson.
His family is honoring his wishes to be cremated. There will be no services planned at this time, however, his daughter will have a private memorial to carry out her father’s last wishes at a later time.
