Joseph Edward Fazakerley II ‘Jay’ passed away August 13, 2024. He passed doing what he loved most, walking in nature with his wife, Mary. Jay was born June 10, 1952, in Deland, Fl to Joseph Edward Fazakerley Sr and Phyllis May Olsen. Jay spent most of his younger years in various parts of Jacksonville, Fl, where there he was raised by his mother and stepfather; Darrell Powers (whom he loved dearly). Jay served in the United States Air Force for 6 years and was by far some of the best times of his life. Frankfurt, Germany was his favorite place and that is where his son Kenneth Christopher Fazakerley was born. When Jay left the Air Force, he moved back to Jacksonville doing various jobs and went back to school for accounting with a minor in Mathematics Education. Jay worked Auditing and Accounting positions for a variety of Real Estate, Resort, Medical and Banking processes. He moved to Saint Petersburg, Fl and worked in Lock box processing, Software/Hardware Implementations and Billing. Jay’s hobbies and loves were photography, reading, writing, finances, movies, nature, birds, music, craft beer, running, tennis and long walks (especially hand in hand with Mary). Jay is survived by his wife Mary Murray Fazakerley, his son, Kenneth Christopher Fazakerley, his step daughter, whom he always referred to as his daughter, Christina Martin Shumate (Scott Shumate), grandchildren: Ciara Howes Thornton (Collin Thornton), Alexandra Gonzalez Kirk (Zachary Kirk), Jordan McMichael, Keith Eris, Jon Jon Comer, Peyton McMichael and great grandchild: Nathan Kirk, sister Susan Powers, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephew (whom he loved dearly). Sadly there were two deaths prior to Jay’s passing: step daughter, whom he always referred to as his daughter, Samantha Martin Comer and his great grandson Jarrett Fazakerley.
Jay was a strong, loving, husband, father, uncle and friend. He did his best to stay in contact with those he loved and still sent cards in the mail for birthdays and Christmas.
Jay’s love of music was so wide, it would be almost impossible to pick songs to remember him by, as pretty much all music is a remembrance. Though, Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” is a song that always comes to mind and he always quoted. So, if you hear it, remember Jay and smile, as this is the message he would send to all. Jay would want us all to move through this earthly journey in peace.
“Three little birds pitch by my doorstep”
“Singing sweet songs of melodies pure and true”
“Saying This is my message to you-ou-ou”
“Don’t worry about a thing”
“Cause every little thing gonna be alright”

Your memorial was so beautiful and so true. Of course I cried but at the same time I felt a joy knowing how full and happy his life was. Jay will be remembered by all who knew him.

Really miss my old classmate. He was a great friend from elementary school throughout our lives. He was always blessed with an abundance of energy and never seemed to wear down. I always miss his wit, knowledge, and that opinionated nature. He was definitely an irreplaceable one of a kind fellow!

Oh Jay. What wonderful times we used to have. All those great walks you took us on. All those places I never could have found without you. Even after we would be too busy talking and would forget which way was back you would sprint in one direction to see if it was right. If it wasn’t we would go the other way and would always find our way back. I love that you were walking to the end and that’s what I aspire to. I hate that Mary has to go on alone and so soon after she retired. I know you and I wish her peace to carry on without you. I’ll always remember your brilliant smile and happy demeanor. I have a great collection of your photos that came in my birthday and Christmas cards. Plus many from your excursions that you posted on FB. Peace be with you Jay. Know that you lived your life well. Rest comfortably friend!😘
