Gregory Allan Cook, lovingly known as “Papa Kitty,” passed away on February 26, 2026, in Ridge Manor, Florida, at the age of 71. Born on May 23, 1954 in Kankakee,Illinois Gregory lived a life filled with dedication to his craft, love for his family, and a passion for the things that brought him joy.

Greg spent an impressive 45 years as an ASE Master Mechanic, a career that showcased his exceptional skills and commitment to excellence. His love for working on cars extended beyond his profession; it was a lifelong passion that defined much of who he was. Whether under the hood or tackling projects around his house, Greg found fulfillment in creating and fixing with his hands.

Outside of work, Greg enjoyed watching movies of all kinds, especially Star Trek and listening to music that resonated deeply with him. Old-time rock and roll held a special place in his heart, with Pink Floyd being his favorite band. These simple pleasures brought him happiness.

Greg faced a courageous battle with cancer, demonstrating strength and resilience throughout. He was an amazing father and a devoted “Papa” who cherished spending time with his grandsons Mathew and Bradley. Whether working on projects together or simply hanging out, these moments were among the most treasured of his life.

Greg is survived by his sons Mathew Cook (Holly) and Alan Cook; grandsons Mathew Cook (Haley) and Bradley Cook (Bianca); brother Tom Cook (Kathy); and a soon-to-arrive great-grandson expected in August 2026. He was predeceased by his parents Audrey and Robert Cook and sisters Margaret Cook and Valerie O’Connell.

Greg’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best—his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of sharing in his life. May his legacy bring comfort to those who loved him as they remember the remarkable man he was.
