FREAD, Craig William

FREAD, Craig William

, 64, Oldsmar, FL passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 13, 2019. Craig was born on May 10, 1954 in Hartford City, IN to William ‘Bill’ and Norma Morgan Fread. He graduated from Blackford County High School in Hartford City in 1972. He then went on to Purdue University where he enjoyed participating in the Purdue “All American” Marching Band and was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After graduating from Purdue with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, he entered a long and successful career in engineering and technical sales, most recently with Southern States Motive Power in Tampa, Florida.

Craig’s biggest passion in life was being a father to his two children, whom he took on many trips and adventures. He loved spending time on the water, especially with his family. As the son of a music director, Craig spent his entire life involved with music. He was involved with various church choirs, including more than 20 years with the Carmel United Methodist Church in Carmel, IN and the last 5 years of his life with Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa, FL.

Craig is survived by his son Jason (Roxanne) Fread, St Augustine, FL; daughter Amy Fread, Houston, TX; 2 grandchildren, Dylan and Fiona Fread, St Augustine, FL; his mother Norma Fread, Carmel, IN; 2 sisters, Susan Albrecht, Indianapolis, IN and Libby (Kevin) Morgan, Ocala, FL; 2 brothers, Chris (Carol) Fread, Noblesville, IN and John (Julie) Fread, Cornelius, NC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill, his grandparents, and his brother-in-law Jerry Albrecht.

There will be a celebration of Craig’s life on Saturday February 16, 2019 at Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa, FL at 11 AM.  Donations can be made in Craig’s name to the Riley Children’s Foundation or the Hyde Park United Methodist Church.

We shared good family times on the water and many holiday gatherings. So young to become a loss to the family, he will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Craig and his family…
Craig was my roommate for 2 years at the Beta house.
We most recently relocated from Alabama to Ponte Vedra, FL.
Imagine my surprise when I introduced myself as a Beta at a Jacksonville Purdue Alumni Association event. Jason Fread asked me if I knew his Dad, Craig.

    OMG.

It is very sad Craig and I did not have an opportunity to reconnect after all those years.

Our thoughts and prayer are with you all.

    Craig: Godspeed on your journey

You will be missed by all

Craig had such a beautiful smile…..it let you see a glimpse of his beautiful soul. He has a specal place in my High School memories; his spirit, his talents and his fun loving nature. My heart aches for his family. May peace be with them as it is with Craig.

To Craig’s family, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Today’s eulogies and the love demonstrated by the Hyde Park Church choir as well as the handbell choir, both of which I know were so important to Craig, were perfect tributes to a truly great man. I first met Craig at Purdue, am proud to call him a Brother, and appreciate the many years of service he gave to our Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

    God speed Craig

Craig was a fraternity brother; a nicer gentleman I never knew. In a world of college men, he was an example for us all. I never saw him treat anyone poorly, whether a brother or a pledge, a member of another house, or a fellow student. He gave of himself for others. We should all share the wish that there will be more Craig Freads in the world.
