ALVAREZ, Augustine (Titi)
, 91, passed away peacefully at his home July 2, 2019 in the care of his loved ones. Titi was born in Tampa August 14, 1927 to Ernest Alvarez and Celia (Fraga) Suarez and lived most of his life in West Tampa.
Titi leaves behind his wife of 66 years Consuelo “Connie”, three daughters, Nancy (Clint) Evans, Chicky (David) Evans and Julie (Delton) Lynch, three grandchildren, Jennifer (Greg) McGee, Ira (Brandy) Evans and Amanda (Frank) Seaton, Godson Dr. Angel Lopez (Betsy) and four great grandchildren, Emma, Jackson, Aubrey and Wyatt. He also leaves behind his brothers Ceferino Suarez and Roland, William, Henry and Ernest Alvarez and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers Ernie, Jerry, Sappy and Leon Alvarez and Mario, Tony, Hugh and Michael Suarez and sister Argelia Such.
Titi was much loved by his family and respected by all who knew him. He was well known in his community for his generosity and willingness to help others. He would be there for those who came to him for help, be it for a loan to help them get by or going to pick up a broken down car, giving someone a ride, or giving food or money to those in need. He would “make his rounds” everyday visiting with friends and delivering La Gaceta. He was never selfish and gave of himself completely. Titi was small in stature but had a giant heart. Sometimes gruff but with a sense of humor, he loved to kid around and was always quick to defend his home and family. Titi was a devoted husband and father and he loved his wife, kids, grandkids and great grandkids very much and they loved him.
Titi worked hard all his life to support his family, working for 35 years with the City of Tampa as a mechanic and retired with commendations from the Mayor. Titi was a good mechanic, a co-worker once saying he could retrieve a broken down city vehicle from the street with nothing but a “2×4 and a piece of wire”. Titi loved to fish and was an expert with the cast net. He was always ready for a fishing trip with family or friends.
Titi was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral will be provided by Centro Espanol Cemetery, 4601 East Lake Avenue, and a grave side service will be held there July 16 at 10 am.
